About The Patrol Boat
The Community Patrol Boat was formed from an idea 6 years by the skipper Dion Howells, Who at the time worked for Devon and Cornwall Police, to enable officers to patrol the Grand western Canal. This was not seen as a good idea by the force back then, This did not put Dion Off he decided to continue on his own and develop the idea on a volunteer basis.
In 2016 Dion approached Phil Brind Director of Tiverton Canal company, Phil was instramental in helping to take this project forward by providing RIPPLE, Dion managed to get several companies, members of the public and councilors to back the idea the money was raised and the project began with Dion and Adrian as the first to Volunteers.
After 12 months hard work on May 27th 2017 "RIPPLE" the Community Patrol Boat was Launched and began to patrol up and down the GRAND WESTERN CANAL, the project hasgone from strength to strength and had dealt with lots of incidents along the canal, and spoken to hundreds of people helping to keep the canal a safer place.
